What is Sokuon?

Sokuon refers to the small “っ” in Japanese. It creates a brief pause in pronunciation, making the preceding sound feel momentarily stopped.

Examples:

きて（来て）: kite (to come) — きって（切手）: kitte (postage stamp)

さか（坂）: saka (slope) — さっか（作家）: sakka (writer)
